Research Project: Pecan Diseases

Location: Crop Germplasm Research

Project Number: 3091-21000-039-002-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Sep 1, 2016
End Date: May 31, 2020

Objective:
The objective of this research is to develop and apply appropriate disease diagnostic tests to associate disease occurrence with phenotypic expression.

Approach:
We will work within the broad diversity of the National Collection of Genetic Resources for Pecans and Hickories to screen for differential expression in economically important diseases affecting pecan. Broad screening will contribute to the identification of sources of tolerance and/or resistance that will impact selection of parents in the Breeding Program, initially for use in mapping populations to refine genomic selection tools, and ultimately for the development of improved cultivars and rootstocks for use by the U.S. pecan industry.
