Location: Hard Winter Wheat Genetics Research
Project Number: 3020-21000-011-011-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement
Start Date: Sep 1, 2016
End Date: Aug 31, 2021
Objective:
1) Determine genes responsible for resistance wheat streak mosaic virus in wheat.
2) Develop breeder friendly markers linked to the genes for marker-assisted selection.
Approach:
1) Use double haploid and recombinant inbred populations of wheat for marker and phenotypic analysis.
2) Use genotyping-by-sequencing (GBS) and SSR markers for linkage map construction for the populations.
3) Convert SNP markers that associated with disease resistance from GBS into KASP markers.
4) Validate target markers in a diversity panel of U.S. wheat.
