Research Project: Developing Software and Database Applications Related to Forage and Animal Management

Location: Forage and Livestock Production Research

Project Number: 3070-21610-003-004-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Jul 1, 2016
End Date: Jun 30, 2021

Objective:
Developing PC and smartphone based software and database applications related to forage and animal management.

Approach:
Beef produced in the Southern Plains (SP: Texas, Oklahoma, and Kansas) provides a significant portion of the nation’s red meat while contributing greatly to farm income in the region. Development of software, database and remote sensing applications using advanced computational and statistical algorithms to assist researchers and producers in managing forage and animal production systems would greatly contribute towards cutting the production costs and increase net profits. The cooperative team comprising of researchers from Forage and Livestock Production Research Unit and University of Oklahoma’s Computer Science Department will develop software and database applications (1) to develop animal information system to meet Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee requirements, (2) to develop advanced statistical learning techniques based models to determine forage quality and estimate crop characteristics, and (3) to develop remote sensing based software packages related to forage and animal management research.
