Objective:
The purpose of this agreement is to document the cooperation between the parties to provide a framework for cooperation and coordination between the ARS and the FS in achievement of their mutual goals. Cooperation and coordination may involve a wide range of activities, including, but not limited to, the following: conducting assessments, inventory, collecting germplasm, research, training, monitoring, protection, restoration and other activities necessary to conserve, manage and restore native plant species and their habitats and ecosystems.

Approach:
This Agreement is to establish a general framework for the cooperation on the in situ and ex situ conservation of plant species within the National Forests and Grasslands of the U.S. Species of interest include trees, shrubs, graminoids and forbs, some of which are listed or tending toward federal listing as threatened or endangered under the Endangered Species Act (ESA), 16 U.S.C.
