Research Project: Improving Disease Resistance in Wheat

Location: Plant Science Research

Project Number: 6070-22000-018-010-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Mar 1, 2017
End Date: Feb 28, 2020

Objective:
This project will work to improve disease resistance in wheat using DNA marker technology.

Approach:
High-throughput assays will be developed that can be used to determine the presence of specific disease resistance genes in wheat germplasm. DNA of wheat breeding lines from programs in Africa and south Asia will be utilized to amplify markers associated with different resistance genes. Genotypic data will be provided to collaborators.
