Research Project: Immune and Metabolic Kinome Analysis of Animal Samples to Study Feed Formulation, Disease and Food Safety

Location: Food and Feed Safety Research

Project Number: 3091-32000-035-011-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Sep 1, 2015
End Date: Aug 31, 2020

Objective:
These studies will evaluate animal response to various infectious diseases and feed additives/formulations to understand the underlying mechanism. The ultimate goal is to define targets for direct intervention, either by feed changes or drug targeting, to enhance safe food production and animal health.

Approach:
USDA-ARS will perform and/or coordinate animal experiments studying feed formulation, infection, and treatments relevant to food safety and animal health. The cooperator at the University of Delaware, Department of Animal and Food Sciences, will perform kinome analysis on these samples, analyze the collected data and provide this data to USDA-ARS.
