Research Project: Alternative Irrigation Water Sources for Sustainable Nursery Production and Urban Landscapes

Location: Application Technology Research

Project Number: 5082-21000-001-036-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Aug 1, 2015
End Date: Jul 31, 2021

Objective:
To evaluate the short- and long-term effects of irrigation with reclaimed water and graywater on nursery & greenhouse crops and landscape plants as compared to municipal potable or high-quality water sources.

Approach:
Controlled irrigation and survey (sample collection & analyses) studies will be conducted to evaluate the effects of reclaimed and graywater irrigation on nursery/greenhouse crops and landscape plants and selected properties of the substrates and soils where they are growing. This will include comparative assessments of the status and dynamics of selected chemical, physical, biological, and aesthetic properties of these crops, plants, and soils irrigated short- and long-term with graywater, reclaimed water and conventional (high-quality & potable) waters.
