Research Project: Risk Assessment and Eradication of Globodera spp. in U.S. Production of Potato

Location: Horticultural Crops Research Unit

Project Number: 2072-22000-043-013-R
Project Type: Reimbursable Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Jun 15, 2015
End Date: Jun 14, 2020

Objective:
1. Improved detection/diagnostics of Globodera spp. 2. Risk assessment of Globodera spp. 3. Develop U.S. potato germplasm with resistance to Globodera spp. 4. Enhance grower knowledge of Globodera spp. and adoption of resistant cultivars. W 5. Develop educational programs, using Globodera spp. as a model, to teach concepts of ecological, agroeconomic, and global trade aspects of invasive plant pathogens.

Approach:
ARS scientists will participate in an integrated project with other national and international scientists. Activities will include, developing and screening of potato germplasm material with resistance to Globodera, conducting population genetics studies on Globodera populations, and participating in educational programs about Globodera.
