Research Project: Life Cycle of Equipment Model: Data Identification and Collection Phase

Location: Operations

Project Number: 3022-32000-016-046-A
Project Type: Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Sep 1, 2026
End Date: Aug 31, 2028

Objective:
Year 1 (1) To work with NBAF staff onsite to design and document end-to-end data workflows: a. What data do we need for the model? b. What data is currently being collected? c. What additional data needs to be collected? d. Is the data hand-collected or automated? (2) To implement data automation to improve efficiency and reduce manual interventions: a. Can we automate processes for hand-collected data? Year 2 (1) To develop data transformation and cleaning protocols to allow for easy integration into the Life Cycle of Equipment Model: a. How do we get the data into a usable format for easy implementation into the model? (2) To determine the timeline for training the model with real NBAF data.

Approach:
DELIVERABLES: Year 1 (1) Improved data workflows, automation, data cleaning as it pertains to the Life Cycle of Equipment Model. Year 2 (2) Identified pathway and timeline to get real NBAF data integrated into the Life Cycle of Equipment Model. METHODS USED/RESPONSIBILITIES: (1) Cooperator PI, will oversee the project: hiring and supervision of the graduate research assistant(s). (2) Cooperator Co-PI, will work directly with the graduate student on data cleaning and model integration pieces. (3) Graduate research assistant will work 20 hours a week for two years (approx. 1,000 hours a year) at the NBAF facility to observe and work with staff on data workflows, automation, data cleaning, and data integration into the model.
