Objective:
Coordinate a North American Barley Scab Evaluation Nursery (NABSEN) for winter barley. Five to seven lines will be solicited from U.S. winter barley breeders. Treated seed will be redistributed to cooperating FHB screening nurseries locations. Eight check lines will be included.
Approach:
Lines will be planted into headrows, in three reps. Plots will be inoculated with Fusarium graminearum colonized corn cob kernels and F. graminearum spores. Fields will be overhead mist-irrigated. Grain will be harvested, ground, and tested for Deoxynivalenol (DON).
