Research Project: Risk-based Integrated Management of Fusarium Head Blight

Location: Crop Production and Protection

Project Number: 0500-00053-005-230-G
Project Type: Grant

Start Date: May 1, 2026
End Date: Apr 30, 2030

Objective:
Evaluate and compare the efficacy and economic benefit of calendar- and forecast-based fungicide-only and integrated management programs for FHB and DON control in soft red winter wheat in Ohio, with emphasis on new combination fungicides, and generate data to validate and advance the development of FHB risk prediction models.

Approach:
The efficacy and economic benefit of integrated management and uniform fungicide programs will be evaluated on SRWW cultivars with varying levels of FHB resistance under calendar- and forecast-based application programs. FHB, DON, and yield data will support cost-benefit analyses of management programs and refinement of the web-based FHB prediction tool.
