Objective:
Develop adapted soft red winter wheat germplasm with FHB resistance and good quality for GA and US Southeast (SE) region by increasing efficiency of breeding programs; combining Fhb7 with known FHB genes (Fhb1,…); use modern technologies such as Rapid Generation Advancement to hasten developing wheat germplasm with FHB resistance.
Approach:
Generating, screening populations from 600 crosses with FHB genes: Fhb1, Fhb7… Elite germplasm will be evaluated efficiently in coordinated breeding programs in GA and SE. Modern tools including RGA will be used to develop FHB resistant germplasm. About 1200 lines will be evaluated for yield and FHB resistance.
