Objective:
The objectives of this proposal are to use traditional breeding techniques, misted scab nurseries, doubled haploid (DH) technology, genomic prediction and selection, and MAS to develop and release FHB resistant cultivars in Texas and share germplasm with other southeastern U.S. programs.
Approach:
Marker data and genomic prediction will be utilized to ensure crosses, DHs, and advanced lines have at least one major Fhb gene (Fhb1, Fhb7) and/or native resistance QTL. A new TX scab nursery will be used to screen TX lines, SunGrains lines, and those from the USDA nursery.
