Objective:
The overall objective of the proposal is to deliver adapted, scab-resistant wheat varieties to the US Mid-South and Gulf Coast regions through a combination of new variety development and cooperative variety evaluation.
Approach:
Modern DNA marker-based tools and cooperative disease nurseries will generate predictions of scab resistance for breeding lines, informing selection decisions to generate resistant varieties. Cooperative disease nurseries will be used to evaluate those breeding lines and lines generated by other programs to identify suitable resistant varieties for the region.
