Objective:
For this project, we will continue breeding barley resistant to Fusarium head blight adapted to Montana. Specifically, we will 1) continue crossing resistant material, 2) genotype F4 lines to establish genomic selection. 3) collect, identify, and characterize Fusarium spp. in the Montana FHB disease complex.
Approach:
We will continue crossing resistant material into lines adapted to Montana. We will field screen resulting progeny in different environments. Resistant lines will be evaluated using genome wide markers. We will also identify the fungal communities within the disease complex to explore their role in disease development.
