Research Project: Breeding and Deployment of Elite Peanut Cultivars for Commercial Production in the Southwestern U.S.

Location: Peanut and Small Grains Research Unit

Project Number: 3070-21220-009-025-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Jul 1, 2026
End Date: Jun 30, 2027

Objective:
The objective of this continuing project is to develop and release elite peanut cultivars with improved disease resistance and agronomic performance for production in the southwester U.S.

Approach:
Crossing experiments will be conducted to produce new hybrid breeding lines. Progeny lines will be genotyped for value added traits such as disease resistance, and high oleic acid content. Breeding lines will be advanced in the greenhouse and field and eventually evaluated in agronomic performance and disease resistance replicated trials. Elite lines will be selected for cultivar release and commercial production.
