Location: Soybean and Nitrogen Fixation Research
Project Number: 6070-21220-070-087-N
Project Type: Non-Funded Cooperative Agreement
Start Date: May 1, 2026
End Date: Apr 30, 2028
Objective:
To carry out cooperative research between the Agricultural Research Service (ARS) and the Vlaams Instituut voor Biotechnologie (VIB) to continue work developed in prior project number, aimed at identifying critical regulators of soybean temperature responses.
This research is critical for achieving the USDA Priority Area of Increasing Profitability of Farmers and Ranchers. US soybean farmers regularly lose millions of dollars to weather stress. Improved soybean varieties with cold and heat tolerance are required to ensure US farmers’ long-term financial security.
Approach:
In prior project, ARS and VIB cooperatively generated large amounts of data, which were not fully analyzed as part of that project. Additional data analyses will uncover critical regulators of soybean temperature responses that can be leveraged for crop improvement. These analyses, which will include physiological and phosphoproteomic data, will identify additional regulators and elucidate their molecular and physiological roles.
