Objective:
To utilize the University of Missouri Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) to ensure compliance with the Animal Welfare Act (AWA) when conducting research on food-producing animals.

Approach:
USDA animal scientists conduct research on food-producing animals using University of Missouri facilities, research farms, and personnel. In order to avoid ambiguity, duplication of research proposal reviews and record keeping, ARS and University of Missouri wish to operate under a single set of rules/guidelines for all employees (ARS and University of Missouri) working on University of Missouri's research farms or in either University of Missouri's or ARS' facilities.
