Identify genomic regions and molecular markers associated with important traits in genetically informative upland cotton mapping populations.
Upland cotton genetic mapping populations (genome-wide association study (GWAS) and RRIL) that have already been sequenced, will be grown in the field and evaluated for seed and fiber quality at the Maricopa Agricultural Research Center (MAC). After reaching maturity, 25 boll samples will be collected, weighed, and ginned. Fiber samples will be sent to Cotton Incorporated for fiber quality assessment using a high volume instrument (HVI). Fuzzy seed will be imaged using a local protocol developed by Herritt et al. (2020). The compiled phenomic and genomic data will be used to identify genetic regions and molecular markers associated with seed and fiber quality traits with R statistical packages. The markers and germplasm will be made available to the cotton community through peer reviewed publications and germplasm release.
