Location: Pollinating Insect-Biology, Management, Systematics Research
Project Number: 2080-21000-019-055-I
Project Type: Interagency Reimbursable Agreement
Start Date: Jun 1, 2022
End Date: May 31, 2023
Objective:
The goals of the project are to: 1) Modernize the database to add comment fields and data dictionaries to enable the database to be used by additional verified managers and users in the future; 2) Modernize the database to match the needed data protection for the different types of data and required IT security; 3) Allow for data entry and continued expansion of the database as new specimens are added by qualified users and add new proofreading/data verification parameters; 4) Allow database to be integrated with other approved databases (for example, PLANTS, Climate databases, and ARCGIS databases) for increased data analyses, etc.; 5) Allow database to provide data for mapping distributions of pollinator species and potentially be made available via an USDA or ARS dashboard.
Approach:
Working with Partnership for Data Innovations (PDI) and the National Ag Library, a database expert will revise the existing database to meet the needed standards for data retention in ARS and help to move the database to online platforms. Data security will be key to the process.
