Research Project: Increasing the Value of U.S. Soybean by Combining High Meal Protein, High Yield and Other Valuable Traits Utilizing Genetic Diversity, Breeding

Location: Soybean and Nitrogen Fixation Research

Project Number: 6070-21220-070-007-A
Project Type: Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Oct 1, 2022
End Date: Sep 30, 2023

Objective:
Develop varieties and breeding lines with >48% meal protein and competitive yields with commercial check varieties. Develop varieties and breeding lines combining >48% meal protein, >70% oleic acid and/or >6% sucrose

Approach:
Conventional and marker assisted breeding, genomics approaches will be used to achieve this objective. NIR technology will be used to measure protein, oil and amino acids.
