Research Project: Discovery and Characterization of Genes and Networks Controlling Soybean Seed Traits

Location: Plant Genetics Research

Project Number: 5070-21000-043-022-A
Project Type: Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Oct 1, 2021
End Date: Aug 31, 2022

Objective:
1). Characterize the high protein QTL genes and alleles important to soybean agriculture and illustrate their associated biological network. 2). Develop new strategies to apply the genes into developing new soybean with desirable seed protein and other quality traits and improved resilience to climate change.

Approach:
A combination of data sciences, molecular, genetic and genomic approaches will be employed to explore soybean genetic diversity to discover genes important to soybean seed quality, and producing and characterizing soybean plants containing altered gene activities for developing new soybean with superior seed quality.
