Location: Soybean and Nitrogen Fixation Research
Project Number: 6070-21220-069-108-A
Project Type: Cooperative Agreement
Start Date: Oct 1, 2021
End Date: Sep 30, 2022
Objective:
Develop U.S. adapted high-yielding germplasm with >48% meal protein, =36% seed protein and >95% check yield and test environmental stability of seed protein
Map and characterize QTL alleles/genes responsible for high protein in domestic and exotic cultivated and wild soybean and/or determine their impact on seed yield.
Approach:
Conventional and marker assisted breeding, genomics approaches will be used to achieve this objective. NIR technology will be used to measure protein, oil and amino acids.
The 6k SNP chips will be used to map the genes/QTLs for mapping the protein genes in cultivated soybean.
