Research Project: Discovery and Modification of QTL Genes/Gene Variants and Networks Controlling Seed Meal Traits and Its Association with Major Seed and Stress...

Location: Plant Genetics Research

Project Number: 5070-21000-043-017-R
Project Type: Reimbursable Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Oct 1, 2021
End Date: Sep 30, 2022

Objective:
1. Discover and validate genes and gene network controlling soybean protein content and the other seed quality traits. 2. Develop new strategies to apply the genes and gene networks for soybean seed quality improvement.

Approach:
Recently, the researchers at the project identified several genes (candidates) controlling soybean seed protein content. The project will characterize and validate the functions of the genes and their association with the other important soybean traits such as oil and yield by integrating molecular, genetic and genomic approaches with an aim to develop new strategies and tools for soybean seed quality improvement through molecular breeding and biotech.
