Research Project: Determining the Repercussions of Declining Test Weight on Seed Composition & Value

Location: Soybean and Nitrogen Fixation Research

Project Number: 6070-21220-069-099-R
Project Type: Reimbursable Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Oct 1, 2021
End Date: Sep 30, 2022

Objective:
1) To compare test weight in old and current varieties by growing them in maturity group (0-VIII) specific field trials. 2) To determine the relation of test weight to yield, seed size, protein content, oil content, and seed quality to contrasting varieties, planting dates, harvest dates, soil types, environments and years. At each location weather conditions leading up to harvest will be recorded, focusing on rainfall and temperature. Seed samples from each plot will be measured for yield, moisture, seed size, protein content, oil content, visual seed quality and test weight. 3) To develop populations to determine the genetic control of test weight.

Approach:
Conventional breeding and agronomic evaluation will be used to accomplish these objectives
