Research Project: Developing Breeding Resources and Understanding Pathogen Biology to Control Frogeye Leaf Spot in Indiana

Location: Crop Production and Pest Control Research

Project Number: 5020-21000-008-021-A
Project Type: Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Oct 1, 2020
End Date: Mar 31, 2022

Objective:
This project aims to develop breeding resources and to understand pathogen biology for soybean frogeye leaf spot.

Approach:
1. Screening soybean germplasm for new source of resistance. (collaborator responsibility) 2. Characterize previously identified source of resistance and identify associated molecular markers to facilitate breeding. (collaborator responsibility) 3. Collect pathogen isolates across Indiana, examine its virulence spectrum against a set of differentials. (ARS responsibility) 4. Characterize pathogen population structure and potential sexual recombination. (ARS responsibility)
