Research Project: Novel Spatial Repellents and Insecticides to Circumvent Pyrethroid Resistance

Location: Mosquito and Fly Research

Project Number: 6036-32000-052-014-A
Project Type: Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Nov 24, 2020
End Date: Aug 31, 2021

Objective:
The proposed research will explore additional synthetic compounds for spatial repellency and lethality against Anopheles gambiae and Aedes aegypti in order to circumvent pyrethroid resistance.

Approach:
We will optimize biological activity via synthesis and testing of additional analogs against mosquitoes, in vitro pharmacology of insect and human receptors to ensure selectivity, safety testing in mice, and field trials to confirm efficacy against mosquitoes in the real world.
