Research Project: Biological Control of Coffee Berry Borer

Location: Office of International Research Engagement and Cooperation

Project Number: 0210-22310-007-025-I
Project Type: Interagency Reimbursable Agreement

Start Date: Oct 1, 2020
End Date: Sep 30, 2021

Objective:
Implement classical and augmentative biological control releases to help control Coffee Berry Borer (CBB).

Approach:
The research will focus on three species of parasitoids – Physmasticus coffea, Prorops nasuta, and Cephalanomia stephanoderis – which are already widely used for CBB control in Latin America. The project aims to increase the genetic diversity of the CBB and its three natural enemies by collecting the organisms in Kenya, their center of origin.
