Research Project: Developing and Disseminating a Comprehensive and Sustainable Management Program for Foliar Diseases of Soybean

Location: Soybean/maize Germplasm, Pathology, and Genetics Research

Project Number: 5012-22000-022-057-R
Project Type: Reimbursable Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Oct 1, 2020
End Date: Sep 30, 2021

Objective:
To determine the effect of soybean vein necrosis virus (SVNV) on plant productivity and evaluate soybean germplasm for resistance to SVNV and thrips.

Approach:
1. Collect data on soybean thrip abundance in the suction trap network and tests selected thrip samples for SVNV. 2. Evaluate soybeans for resistance to both the soybean thrip and SVNV by infesting a widerange of soybean genotypes. 3. Use caged experiments to evaluate select soybean genotypes without stress and with stress (soybean thrip and SVNV) for plant productivity.
