Location: Grassland Soil and Water Research Laboratory
Project Number: 3098-13610-009-088-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement
Start Date: May 3, 2021
End Date: Jun 30, 2023
Objective:
The objective of this project is to evaluate the potential environmental tradeoffs in implementing precision conservation. This will be used to guide potential precision nutrient prescription to improve conservation by developing metrics place resources (seed, fertilizer, etc.) where they will improve crop production while protecting water quality.
Approach:
Field studies with nitrogen and phosphorus response trials based on soil fertility status, cropping history and use of cover crops will be performed for three years at multiple locations. A statistician postdoc will be hired to analyze historic data as well as data collected throughout the life of this study. Cooperator agricultural engineers will support the mechanical/equipment needs of the project.
