Objective:
Develop a training program that provides hands-on animal handling, research and regulatory experience to practitioners, scientists and animal handing staff.
Approach:
The training program will provide experiences and training in the following areas:
a. Working within a highly-regulated research environment, following standards set by the IACUC, IBC, FDA, USDA, EPA, and other relevant agencies;
b. Preparing study protocols, data collection forms, and animal use plans for regulatory and animal welfare submissions;
c. Research participation in study design and execution of animal study to test an ARS developed product; and
d. Assessing study design alternatives for power calculations and statistical considerations through purposeful statistical training and exercises with Kansas State University Center for Outcomes Research and Epidemiology.
