Research Project: Genetic Improvement of Flood Tolerance and Best Management Practices for Sustainable Soybean Production

Location: Soybean and Nitrogen Fixation Research

Project Number: 6070-21220-069-097-R
Project Type: Reimbursable Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Jan 1, 2021
End Date: Dec 31, 2021

Objective:
Development of flood tolerant soybean germplasm for North Carolina.

Approach:
1. Identify putative flood tolerant genotypes from Missouri, Arkansas, and North Carolina as test materials. 2. Develop a flood implementation protocol at Plymouth, North Carolina, based on previous rice research at that location. 3. Screen genetic materials for visual symptoms of stress and agronomic performance under flooding comditions. 4. Compare results with those found in other states. 5. Identify breeding stock for development of flood tolerant cultivars for the southeastern USA.
