Research Project: Functional Genomics of Powdery Mildew Resistance in Bigleaf Hydrangea

Location: Floral and Nursery Plants Research

Project Number: 8020-21000-086-001-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Sep 1, 2020
End Date: Aug 31, 2025

Objective:
The objective is to identify sources of resistance to powdery mildew in hydrangea using traditional pathogen inoculation and screening combined with functional genomics approaches.

Approach:
The approach will involve infection and resistance screening of F1 and F2 hydrangea populations created previously, followed by RNA-seq and analysis. The Cooperator will oversee the pathogen isolation, culture, inoculation and disease data collection, while the ARS PI will oversee the plant growth system, RNA extraction and sequence work, and data analysis.
