Research Project: Development and Mitigation of Powdery Mildew Fungicide Resistance on Table Grape Production in California – Second Year

Location: Crop Diseases, Pests and Genetics Research

Project Number: 2034-21220-007-30-T
Project Type: Trust Fund Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: May 1, 2020
End Date: Apr 30, 2021

Objective:
Determine the distribution and development of fungicide resistant isolates on table grape, in order to design case-specific rotational programs that reduce the presence of resistant isolates, and guarantee a good control of the pathogen over time.

Approach:
We propose to collect powdery mildew samples from three out of the six fungicide rotation programs tested by our collaborator. Samples will be returned to the lab for chelax extractions. DNA will be tested for the G13A mutation that confers resistance to QoI fungicides in Eryisphe necator. Remaining DNA will be used for next generation exome sequencing.
