Location: Watershed Physical Processes Research
Project Number: 6060-13000-026-051-I
Project Type: Interagency Reimbursable Agreement
Start Date: Aug 1, 2020
End Date: Jan 31, 2022
Objective:
To construct and test an acoustic phased array system for use in detecting and localizing sound made by gravel moving in streams.
Approach:
We will continue to work toward identifying sound source areas in streams by constructing and testing the 2-D acoustic phased-array and by developing algorithms to process the data from the array. The main need for funding is to support the work of CRAFT Tech, Inc., who specializes in acoustic phased-array development, to build algorithms for converting acoustic data from the array into distance and direction. Empirically mapping the acoustic source region would aid the development of calibration relations for future SGN deployments on streams and rivers.
