Location: Soybean and Nitrogen Fixation Research
Project Number: 6070-21220-069-063-R
Project Type: Reimbursable Cooperative Agreement
Start Date: Apr 1, 2020
End Date: Sep 30, 2021
Objective:
1). Determine the impact increased protein (>45%) and low oil (<18%) have on seed yield in soybean lines with unique genetic diversity.
2) Determine the nutritional value of seed with increased protein and lower oil by valuating the amino acid composition of the seed, as well as other factors including seed size, seed quality and test weight.
3) Evaluating the amino acid and fatty acid composition of lines with increased protein and low oil compared to lines with high protein and low oil.
4) Identify potential candidates to develop a mapping population to identify QTLs for low
oil and improved nutritional value.
5) Identify potential candidates, with very low oil (<15%), or >45% protein from the Germplasm and Information Network (GRIN) for use as parental stock for developing new breeding populations.
6) Determine an optimal elevated protein and low oil level, without making any
unnecessary sacrifices in yield and other traits of importance.
Approach:
Conventional breeding and agronomic evaluation will be used to accomplish these objectives
