Research Project: Discerning the Polyamine Roles in the Biotic and Abiotic Stress Biology of Plants

Location: Sustainable Agricultural Systems Laboratory

Project Number: 8042-21220-259-002-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Sep 1, 2020
End Date: Jun 30, 2022

Objective:
The objective of this agreement is to support research through collaboration and develop fundamental information on the role of polyamines in plant responses to disease and abiotic stresses, and provide mentorship to a postdoctoral researcher in cooperation with the Cooperator.

Approach:
The Cooperator and postdoctoral fellow under ARS direction will test unique plant germplasm including high polyamine lines and select for disease- and stress-resilient plants. These plants will be sampled for yield, prepared for RNAseq and metabolomic analyses, and unique groups of genes related to disease resilience and abiotic stresses identified. Appropriate statistics will be applied to define critical genetic and metabolomic interactions.
