Research Project: Evaluating Potential Cross-Resistance between Bacterial Proteins for Western Corn Rootworm and Baseline Toxicity Assays for Northern Corn Rootworm

Location: Plant Genetics Research

Project Number: 5070-21000-041-20-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Apr 9, 2020
End Date: Apr 8, 2021

Objective:
1. Evaluate baseline susceptibility of the northern corn rootworm to Cry3Bb1 in diet toxicity assays.

Approach:
Diet toxicity assays will be conducted using increasing doses of Cry3Bb1 for the northern corn rootworm using an in-house ARS diet for northern corn rootworm in order to evaluate susceptibility of northern corn rootworm to Cry3Bb1. These studies will be performed using ARS’ “Brookings” non-diapausing colony, as well as wild northern corn rootworm insects.
