Research Project: Biosecurity Treatment Options for Brown Marmorated Stinkbug

Location: Commodity Protection and Quality Research

Project Number: 2034-43000-043-018-T
Project Type: Trust Fund Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Feb 27, 2020
End Date: Aug 31, 2023

Objective:
Develop novel postharvest treatments as biosecurity options to control all physiological stages of brown marmorated stinkbug.

Approach:
Utilize a cooperative effort between USDA-ARS, industry, and The New Zealand Institute for Plant and Food Research Limited to address brown marmortated stinkbug infestations of U.S. consignments exported to New Zealand. The research will involve a multi-pronged approach. The first aim involves the identification of the fumigation parameters required for control. The second aim involves confirmatory testing of fumigation efficacy. The third aim is to transfer results of this research to commercial end-users, particularly shipping companies and New Zealand authorities.
