Location: Arthropod-borne Animal Diseases Research
Project Number: 3020-32000-007-27-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement
Start Date: Dec 16, 2019
End Date: Mar 31, 2021
Objective:
Cooperator will support the development and construction of prototype traps and surveillance devices for insect surveillance and management. The novel technologies include enhanced disease vector and pest surveillance of larval and adult stages by building specialized such as electroshockers, traps, and surveillance equipment for pests of medical, veterinary, and urban importance.
Approach:
Cooperator will utilize electronics and CAD to improve current electro-shocking backpack technologies resulting in better larval insect attraction, reduced power consumption, and construct novel devices that can better utilize the waveforms needed. The cooperator will also build traps and surveillance devices that have visual, audio, and olfactory attraction components as well as communications devices and self-monitoring technologies (smart devices).
