Location: Plant Genetics Research
Project Number: 5070-21000-040-34-A
Project Type: Cooperative Agreement
Start Date: Oct 1, 2019
End Date: Aug 31, 2020
Objective:
Lead the HOLL breeding effort for maturity groups III, IV, and V. Develop and identify new high yielding soybean lines to be used in forward and backcrossing efforts for the high oleic/low linolenic traits. Identify and test HOLL lines emerging from the backcrossing program. Manage HOLL germplasm and conduct breeding activities to increase genetic diversity for yield of HOLL lines among collaborators.
Approach:
1) Final selection of fatty acid desaturase alleles in recurrent parents for conversion to HOLL to salvage the most advanced materials from the backcrossing program. 2) Crosses made between fixed HOLL donor lines to expand genetic diversity within the HOLL program. 3) Utilize existing selection strategies to select highest yielding HOLL lines to target for variety release.
