Research Project: Improving Seed Protein through Management and Understanding Nitrogen Metabolism (Year 1 of 3)

Location: Soybean and Nitrogen Fixation Research

Project Number: 6070-21220-069-040-R
Project Type: Reimbursable Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Oct 1, 2019
End Date: Sep 30, 2020

Objective:
1. Understand the impact of environment and management on soybean seed composition. 2. Determine which plant nitrogen flux(es) can be manipulated to increase seed protein. 3. Integrate management strategies with relevant nitrogen flux traits for optimizing seed protein.

Approach:
A combination of field studies and meta-analysis will be used to determine the impact of management strategies on soybean seed composition, and measurements of nitrogen stable isotope ratios will reveal the contribution of different itrogen metabolic processes to higher seed protein among soybean genotypes.
