Research Project: Development of High-yielding Germplasm with Optimum Oil and Protein Contents and Innovative Oil Attributes

Location: Soybean and Nitrogen Fixation Research

Project Number: 6070-21220-069-039-R
Project Type: Reimbursable Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Oct 1, 2019
End Date: Sep 30, 2020

Objective:
1) Develop new and improved cultivars/germplasm with optimum oil and protein content for the current market place. a. Identify, characterize, and develop markers for alleles which break oil, protein, and yield negative relationships using multivariate models. b. Develop and release module for a selection index based on multi-year market value of soybean oil and meal. c. Develop and trial improved breeding lines selected for optimal oil, protein, and yield for potential release as cultivars/germplasm.

Approach:
Conventional breeding and molecular mapping approaches will be used to accomplish these objectives.
