Research Project: Biological Control of Invasive Arthropod Pests from the Eastern Hemisphere

Location: European Biological Control Laboratory

Project Number: 0212-22000-027-27-R
Project Type: Reimbursable Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Oct 1, 2019
End Date: Dec 31, 2019

Objective:
To mass-rear the olive fruit fly natural enemy P. lounsburyi to supply field releases in California. This will support an ongoing biological control program for olive fly in California.

Approach:
EBCL will conduct the Psyttalia mass-rearing operation in our quarantine laboratory using existing colonies. Additional live specimens will be collected by foreign cooperators to improve the genetic quality of our colonies. Large numbers of live specimens will be shipped under appropriate APHIS and French permits to cooperators in California for evaluation and field release.
