Research Project: Boxwood Blight Presence and Management in Oregon Nurseries

Location: Horticultural Crops Disease and Pest Management Research Unit

Project Number: 2072-22000-046-008-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Aug 1, 2019
End Date: Oct 1, 2023

Objective:
To determine incidence of the boxwood blight pathogen in Oregon boxwood nurseries and to evaluate the effect of environment on disease development.

Approach:
Oregon nurseries will be sampled for the presence of the boxwood blight pathogen, Calonectria pseudonaviculata, by isolating from plant tissues and by using DNA detection methods. The effect of environment (temperature and/or moisture) on boxwood blight disease development will be tested by inoculating plants in greenhouse, field, or growth chamber studies. This project will be expanded to include more nurseries on the survey and to add a second trial for the environment experiment.
