1. Support for a variety of complex technical duties in support of cropping system implementation and research. 2. Evaluate an at-planting soil sensing system for measuring planting conditions. 3. Evaluate technologies for quantifying soil fertility and soil health across variable soils and climate. 4. Analyze runoff water quality to assess the impact of management decisions on the environment.

1. For Objective 1, Use a variety of computerized farm equipment and specialized sampling equipment to implement field experiments and collect data. 2. Maintain, calibrate and modify complex/specialized equipment and automated systems used for test and evaluation procedures of soil and crop measurements. 3. Maintain, collect, prepare, evaluate and verify samples and supporting records. 4. Maintain cropping system records and locate and compile data and other information from various sources. 5. Tabulates, statistically analyzes and summarizes data using personal computers and software packages. For objective 2, soil moisture, temperature, organic matter, and cation exchange capacity will be determined for evaluation of the sensor as a tool for improved agronomic decisions supporting planting management. For objective 3, Use advanced data analysis techniques to develop relationships describing how critical soil fertility test values used for phosphorus (P), potassium (K), and sulfur (S) fertilization in corn should be altered as a function of soil health metrics, and relate technologies for quantifying soil fertility and soil health across variable soils and climate.
