Research Project: Economic Benefits of Areawide Management of Insect Vectors

Location: Temperate Tree Fruit and Vegetable Research

Project Number: 2092-22000-022-02-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Aug 1, 2019
End Date: Sep 30, 2020

Objective:
Expand an areawide decision-support system in potato to incorporate data on pathogen incidence in vector populations in vegetable and seed crops across central Washington and northern Oregon.

Approach:
In phase one, stakeholders and scientists involved in vegetable and seed production will be brought together to discuss areawide vector and pathogen management, and monitoring efforts will be expanded to include crops other than potato. In subsequent phases, models for vectors and pathogens will be integrated into the decision-support framework, so producers of many crops will be able to make more effective management decisions. The economic benefits of the system will be estimated.
