The objectives of this research are to: 1) compare a portable respiratory gas monitoring system to observations made in a stationary room sized calorimeter, and 2) further develop a metabolic fuel model useful for identifying the relationship of various metabolic measure to whole body glucose regulation and subsequent body health outcomes.
Calorimeter measurements will be made in the USDA Room Sized Calorimeter (RC) with simultaneously collected data from 1) a Continuous Glucose Monitor (CGM), 2) “Carbon dioxide/Oxygen Breath and Respiration Analyzer (COBRA)”, and 3) a “Real-Time Physiological Status Monitoring (RT-PSM) system named OBAN (Open Body Area Network). These data will be used to compare stationary and portable methodolgies. Real time metabolic data will be used for the further development of a metabolic fuel model useful for identifying the relationship of various metabolic measures to whole body glucose regulation and subsequent body health outcomes.
