Research Project: Improved Surfactants Using Amylose Inclusion Complexes

Location: Plant Polymer Research

Project Number: 5010-41000-174-02-T
Project Type: Trust Fund Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Jun 1, 2019
End Date: Jun 1, 2020

Objective:
To create a corn-based emulsifier which can replace emulsifiers that use non-renewable materials, providing higher value at a lower cost.

Approach:
Efforts will be concentrated on using hydrolyzed corn oil as the source of the ligand for both fatty acid and fatty amine salts. Production will be undertaken using either steam jet cooking or microwave processing. Cost of manufacturing determinations will also be undertaken. Results will be shared with companies which may be able to commercialize the technology.
