Research Project: The Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Soybean Value Chain Research

Location: Soybean/maize Germplasm, Pathology, and Genetics Research

Project Number: 5012-22000-023-004-R
Project Type: Reimbursable Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Nov 3, 2018
End Date: Jun 24, 2022

Objective:
The goal of the Soybean Innovation Lab is to build a foundation for soybean production in Africa by developing the knowledge, innovation, and technologies to enable successful soybean production. The objective of this particular project is to assess diseases and pests in Pan African soybean trials by rating incidence and severity of damage.

Approach:
The soybean entries in Pan African Trials will be evaluated for diseases and pests at multiple locations. Samples will be collected of any new or questionable occurrences of diseases and pests. Diseased tissue infected with red leaf blotch pathogen will be sampled for further confirmation of the identity of the pathogen. New images of diseases and pests will be obtained in order to update the “Field Guide to African Soybean Diseases and Pests.”
